Have an espresso powered weekend

This is your last reminder, folks: the 2008 Northeast Regional Barista Competition is this weekend, Friday and Saturday, April 11th & 12th, at the Historic State Theater in downtown Ithaca, and it is FREE to the public. That means FREE espresso for tasting, FREE equipment demonstrations, and FREE seats to watch the top coffee baristas from our region as they bring out the best of the beans, competing for a chance to go to the Nationals.

For all the details, check out the website of Gimme! Coffee or the State Theater. We'll be recording our next episode of the podcast live from this event, so come on by and show your support for locally roasted coffee and the talented folks who bring it to you every day.

This episode of Eating Ithaca is for all the caffeine lovers out there, as we’ve got an exclusive interview with Gimme! Coffee founder and CEO, Kevin Cuddeback.

Kevin is totally committed to sharing his enthusiasm for great coffee with as wide an audience as possible, and it is that drive and ambition that has quickly made Gimme! an important part our local dining scene. And with their recent expansion into NYC, it seems Ithaca is going to have to learn how to share its own little special source for top quality espresso with the rest of the world.

In addition to my interview with Kevin, I also recorded an impromptu tasting of some freshly roasted Kenyan beans that he prepared for us. While the recording quality is a little lower than the rest of the show, Kevin’s enthusiasm and tasting tips were too good not to share with you, so I’ve added that here for you to download separately:
