Ep. 28 - Local Grass Fed Beef & Mediterranean Dining

In this episode we take a trip out to Trumansburg to visit Robert & Tina MacCheyner at High Point Farms, where they're offering all natural beef from pasture-raised, grass-fed heritage breed cattle.

And we've gone back to the top of our alphabetical list of Ithaca restaurants to see what new places we've missed before, bringing us to two different Downtown options with Mediterranean menus: Basha in Center Ithaca, and Dino's Mediterranean Deli in the Dewitt Mall. Which one was our favorite? Take a listen to find out, and check out our Flickr page for photos of all the food we've been eating.

Plus we've got updates for you on more restaurant changes we discovered on the horizon for Ithaca, and news about the latest foodie events that you won't want to miss.

Don't forget, we'd love to hear from you too! Leave a comment on our blog, call our voicemail line anytime at 607-215-4392, or send an email to: feedback at eatingithaca dot com. You can join us on Facebook or follow us on Twitter for continuing updates throughout the week. Thanks for joining us!

Don't Miss One-Day-Only Events this Saturday, Feb. 21st!

Hello Ithaca Eaters! Just a quick reminder not to miss the 11th Annual Great Downtown Ithaca Chili Cook-off and WinterFest. Head down to the Commons on Saturday, Feb. 21st from 11:30am to 4:00pm to partake in some great warm food to warm you during the coldest part of the year and share in the fun activities.

Since Eating Ithaca won't be able to attend this year, we'd love to get a report from YOU on what we missed: give us a call at 607-215-4392 when you're at the event and leave your thoughts in a 2-minute message on our voicemail, let us know about your favorite parts of the event, and we'll include them in an upcoming episode of the Eating Ithaca podcast!

And if you need to warm up after the big day outside, be sure to make your reservation for a special one-night-only dinner kicking off the Cornell Hotel School's 2009 Guest Chef Series, featuring Cornell alumnus and Food Network host Aida Mollenkamp. Advanced reservations and deposits are required, and seating is limited. You can book your reservation today by calling the Guest Chefs Reservation Line at (607) 254-2624, or click here for more details. Be sure to check out the Taverna Banfi website for updates on future Guest Chefs in 2009, and look for our interview with Aida Mollenkamp in an upcoming episode of our podcast.

Bottom line: don't let the cold weather keep you inside. Get out this Saturday and keep Eating Ithaca!

Ep. 27 - Chef Sam Izzo, Fanta Spritzers, and Weird Old Guy

Download MP3 | Subscribe to podcast via RSS | Subscribe via iTunes

Our special guest for this show is the talented chef and restauranteur Samantha Izzo, whose Simply Red Bistro has been at Sheldrake Point Vineyard in Ovid since the Spring of 2007 and has now just opened in a second location at La Tourelle Resort in Ithaca. We talk about what she finds appealing about being a chef in the Finger Lakes.

Also, our goal at eating at every restaurant in Ithaca from A-Z checks one more letter off the list as we wrap up the letter G with reviews of the Glenwood Pines and Godfather's Pizza (with a little help from Fanta and a cameo from Weird Old Guy). Plus we have updates on the latest food events happening in the coming weeks around town.

You'll hear some great music from the Evil City String Band in this episode. You can hear their music or buy their CD online here.

If you want to get in touch or be part of a future episode, you may leave a comment on the blog, call our voicemail line anytime at 607-215-4392, or send an email to: feedback at eatingithaca dot com. Remember to check out our Flickr page for photos of all the food we've been eating at restaurants we review, and be sure to join us on Facebook or follow us on Twitter for continuing updates throughout the week. If you like what we're doing, be sure to share the love and tell a friend about us!
